Male nurse accused of corrupt practices
A male nurse attached to the Renal Dialysis Unit of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital had violated all rules and regulations by purchasing Hospital equipment from outside while it was available in the Hospital. He had submitted the bills to the Hospital Director for reimbursement, the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) charged yesterday.
Dr. Nalin Ariyaratne, Assistant Secretary of the GMOA told The Island that this particular nurse asks some patients to purchase catheters from outside while it was available in the Hospital.
The said nurse is said to be an office bearer of the Public Service United Nurses Union in the Anuradhapura Branch and refuses to carry out directives issued by the authorities. Hospital sources said that the head of the Union to which he belongs had written to the Hospital authorities to drop the charges against him.
Following inquiries conducted by the Director, he was transferred to another Unit within the Hospital but has refused to obey and continued to serve in the same Unit.
Hospital Director Dr. W. M. T. B. Wijekoon said The Health Ministry has been notified of his conduct.
