Jaffna Group for Anti-Corruption


Youth in Jaffna formed “Jaffna Group for Anti-Corruption” in order to collectively tackle corruption related grievances in their area.

This was after Transparency International Sri Lanka’s Advocacy and Legal Advice Center held a two day new media training workshop for Jaffna Youth engaged in Anti-Corruption initiatives. The training was held at the Afriel Youth Center Jaffna on 1st and 2nd March 2015.

Motivated by the interactive training workshop, youth participants decided to form the alliance.

The workshop covered a variety of sessions on corruption and its wider social implications and how new media has been appropriated in the local as well international context to influence change in their regions. The workshop also covered several social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Google Plus, Instagram, Flicker and WordPress. Participants were trained on various aspects such as story writing, uploading and sharing content on social media, promoting social media content, networking through social media, ethical frameworks and other related technical aspects such as privacy and security.

The Resource persons for the workshop were, Sampath Samarakone, Editor, Vikalpa Voices, Jagath Liyanarachi AAL, Manager ALAC, and Haritha Dahanayake IT/Web Manager TISL.
