Investigative Journalism training in Polonnaruwa

Media personnel representing both electronic and print media in Polonnaruwa District participated at a three-day workshop on Investigative Journalism organized by Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) in association with European Union(EU) recently.

The workshop held at Girithale Hotel in Polonnaruwa was the first of its kind where TISL developed resource book and handbook on IJ was used in trainning. The two books have been published jointly by Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) to strengthen the professionalism in Sri Lankan investigative journalism, both at the national and regional level.

Eighteen Senior and young journalists attended the workshop. The programme included presentations on Concepts & methodologies on Investigative Journalism, Ethics, Investigative Journalism and Anti-corruption, Sources, Safety and electronics trails. Further the participants were trained on writing of an investigative story.

The programme was conducted by Research & Training Editor at Lake House C Dodawatta, trainer in IJ Lasantha Ruhunage and TISL’s Shan Wijethunga and Haritha Dahanayake.
